The power of honesty

Honesty is powerful.  With it you can realign expectations, bring comfort to yourself, to others and revive your growth journey.  Honesty with love allows for the real ministry, growth, challenge and excitement in teams to occur.  Don’t focus on another thing until you have begun investing into a culture of honesty.  It will pay big dividends later.  In fact, a work culture that values honesty is one that can be “checked”, rebuked, “called to the mat” and back in the game in no time.  It’s so much easier to tackle issues with a group of tough personalities, high profile professionals or chumps when you work in a place that values honesty in love.

How do you handle tough topics and issues with individuals on your team?

we claim “the umbrella of mercy” and then speak truth!

This is a real issue where I work and it really shouldn’t be. I work at a church and it feels like in the spirit of “being Christian” people don’t say what they feel. The worst part is that people feel free to talk about it in smaller cliques. I don’t think anyone has bad intentions but it’s a real drag because I feel like we can be so much more creative! Argh!!!

My team is full of a bunch of gracious dudes so it’s easy to just let things go sometimes. We are learning as a team that not being honest about stuff doesn’t help anyone in the long run. One of the guys on my team is a master of sharing his feelings without putting anyone on the defensive. I learn a lot from him.

Guy: I like the ol “umbrella of mercy” disclaimer.
