Critical Listening for Worship Teams

I got this question the other day by a friend of mine.
“CJ my team is a new team that has not played with each other for very long. I can’t get them to play songs consistently and would like to stretch their own persoanl style tendencies a bit so everything doesn’t sound like the song we just did. Any ideas?”
Here is a very low key but effective way to get your Worship Team focused and playing with purpose consistently. Host a listening party at a home or at the church. Have the songs that you guys do by the artists that you favor readily available.
Pass out a Analysis Sheet, you can use the one above. Have each person circle what instruments are present. Then have them describe what each instrument is doing during the different parts of the song. This will force your team to listen carefully to what instruments are doing what at specific times. Have them review this and think about how it may differ to the way they are currently playing the song.
This is usually a great time for discussion.
