Song writing Woes

Ever get those mental blocks that keep you from creating? I actually find myself getting really bummed when I hit those songwriting dry spells. It’s funny how superstitious I can get all of a sudden too. The funny thing is that these dry spells come just like the seasons do. There’s not always a formula one can apply to make it pass (or at least I haven’t heard of one). Recently I went for like 4-6 months without writing a tune. I was depressed! It just wasn’t flowing. I’d start something and then blah, nada! The worst thing I have done in the past is get down on myself and add more pressure. There is a degree of freedom that must be present for your writing to flow. At least I find that with myself. So a couple weeks ago I invited a couple friends to come over and just jam and hang for a couple hours. Have a little fun with it.
Then it happen, Break through! It started working again. I started playing around with an idea and then that idea turned into something solid thus a new song was born. *Sigh* Not long after that my buddy Eli came over for the weekend and we knocked out 3 more tunes! Feelin good. Feelin good.
